ELSA

ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) is a national programme that supports children and young people with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs.

The intervention helps pupils acknowledge, understand and manage their emotions with a view to increasing their success. This means recognising that young people learn more effectively, and gain more enjoyment from this learning, when their emotional needs are addressed, their level of wellbeing is increased and stressful situations are reduced.

ELSA thinks beyond the presenting behaviours to the needs those behaviours may be expressing due to issues our children may be having with: self esteem; social and friendship skills; attachment; anxiety; anger management; and loss, bereavement and family separation or absence.
