About Our School

At Trafalgar Community Infant school we currently with eight classes. Each class has a maximum of 30 children. Our classrooms are arranged around an inner garden area. This secure central garden area is where our Reception children can learn through play on a daily basis, wind, rain or shine. This area enhances the learning that takes place in the classrooms, and allows more space to move and to learn by doing.

We open our classroom doors at 8.50am to allow children to come straight into their room to get ready for the day ahead. Registration is promptly at 9am. The school day ends at 3.15pm (total compulsory schooling time in a typical week is therefore 31 hours and 15 minutes).

The school is fortunate in having good sized grassy areas and tarmac playgrounds containing an adventure playground equipment, an outdoor theatre, gardening areas and a number of stimulating play areas.

Children take part in our own Woodland Time experience, where they develop their collaborative skills whilst learning about the natural world around them. Bug hunts, classifying plants, making natural paint and weaving are just some of the activities that they enjoy in our Woodland area.

We offer a range of curriculum enriching clubs before and after school. These have included art, music, techy tots, dance, karate, lego, football and multi skills for sport.

Staff enjoy teaching at Trafalgar, and we work closely with other schools in our locality. Our locality is called the West Horsham Schools Network: learning, thinking, growing together. We work collaboratively on a range of projects each year such as  providing parenting courses, staff training and enrichment opportunities for the children.

The majority of our children move in Year 3 to Greenway Junior School. We have close links with Greenway Junior School and our staff have opportunities throughout the year to work together. In Year Two we have a transition program which allows the children to visit a number of times and get to know their new teacher before moving on to their new school.
