We are a larger than average infant school with nine classes - three classes for each year group. Each class has a maximum of 30 children. Our classrooms are arranged around an inner garden area. This secure central garden area is where our children can learn through play on a daily basis, wind, rain or shine. This area enhances the learning that takes place in the classrooms, and allows more space to move and to learn by doing.
We open our classroom doors at 8.50am to allow children to come straight into their room to get ready for the day ahead. Registration is promptly at 9am. The school day ends at 3.15pm (total compulsary schooling time in a typical week is therefore 31 hours and 15 minutes).
The school is fortunate in having good sized grassy areas and tarmac playgrounds containing an adventure playground equipment, an outdoor theatre, gardening areas and a number of stimulating play areas.
Children take part in our own Forest School experience, where they develop their collaborative skills whilst learning about the wonderful world around them. Bug hunts, classifying plants, fire building, cooking on fire, making natural paint and weaving are just some of the activities that they enjoy in our Forest School area.
We offer a range of curriculum enriching clubs before and after school. These have included gardening, art, music, golf, dance, karate, lego, football, multi skills for sport, and food club.
Staff enjoy teaching at Trafalgar, and we work closely with other schools in our locality. Our locality is called the West Horsham Schools Network: learning, thinking, growing together. An example of the benefits of working collaboratively includes the enrichment activities that we are able to offer for some of our children across all of the schools in our locality.
The majority of our children move in Year 3 to Greenway Academy. We have close links with Greenway Academy and our staff have opportunities throughout the year to work together. In Year Two we have a transition program which allows the children to visit and get to know their new teacher before moving on to their new school.
